The Central West Virginia Genealogy & History Library is operated by the Hacker's Creek Pioneer Descendants, Inc. The library's collection includes manuscripts, published materials, photos, maps, artifacts, and computerized data on thousands of names from throughout West Virginia and adjacent states, including additional information on most of these; however, it has a primary focus on the counties of Central West Virginia. To assist you in your research, you may visit our Online Card Catalog. Using the references you find there, you may either come to our library and do your own research or follow the instructions given at the Online Card Catalog site to request research. The CWG&HL is located in Historic Lewis County at the junction of Old Route 33 and Abbott's Run Road in Horner, West Virginia. Our facility is the former Horner School. For your information, Horner is six miles from Weston, West Virginia. Specific directions to the library from I-79: Exit 99 (US Route 33), turn right, go 2.5 miles to the Horner-Georgetown crossroad, turn left, and the library will be directly in front of you behind some pine trees. You will be able to see the red front door. There is plenty of parking at the side. The library is open to the public. Members are admitted free; it is suggested that non-members make a small donation for library usage. Hours are:
We are closed Memorial Day holiday, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving weekend (Thursday - Sunday) and Christmas week (December 22, 2007 - January 2, 2008). We are open to the public during our annual gathering (August 8-12, 2007, but the public needs to know that several hundred people will be around and about the library those days. During the winter inclement weather, we are closed any day that the Lewis County School System is closed.. It is suggested that you call before traveling during ice and snow storms. While we do have some paid staff, most of our librarian assistants are volunteers. They give of their time and themselves to make your visit special and to assist you in any way they can. We thank them for their help. The mailing address for the library is: |
