HARRISON COUNTY COURT MINUTES  1784-1792

These records are for Harrison County in what was then Virginia but is today West Virgina.

The Harrison County court minutes (1784-1792) were transcribed by Charlotte Fleming, Virginia Mosgrove, Ethel Nielson, Norman Collier, and Barbara Palmer from the onion skin translations created in WPA days (1930s) and now on file at the West Virginia Archives.  We extend a special thanks to Fredrick H. Armstrong, Director at the Archives, for his assistance and to all those who helped transcribe the records.

The onion skins were very hard to transcribe and required the use of magnifying glasses and other technologies.  We have attempted to retain the original spelling as it appeared in the onion skin copies.

These are here for your use and enjoyment.  Although the information in them belongs to the public domain, the format in which they here appear is copyrighted (2001) by HCPD. 

                                                           

Page 1,-- Be it remembered that at the house of George Jackson on Buckhannon River the 20th day of July 1784 tax commissioner of the Peace and, a commission of Oyer and Terminer for the said County directed to John P. Duvall, Benjamin Wilson, Wm Lowther, James Anderson, Henry Delay, Nicholas Carpenter, Wm Robinson, John Powers, Thos Cheney, Jacob Westfall, Salathia1 Goff and Patrick Hamilton was presented and read, and thereupon the oath of allegiance to the commonwealth as administered by Benj Wilson, Gent. to the said John P. Duvall and by him to the above named Justices and also the oath of Office as directed by law.

Ordered that a foamier order of Monongalia County in these words, " Ordered that the road from Richards fort extended by Edmund West's Hill to John Hacker's the nearest and best wat. Nicholas Carpenter, Isaac Richards and David Sleeth be appointed to view and lay out the said road and make report to the next court  to be hold for this County is hereby received.

Archibald Lockiurs Depot on the Ohio River in the year 1781 and that he was captivated on the first day of August in said year and returned to the mouth of Grave Creek on the east side of the Ohio River on the 16th day of July 1784.
